I am moving to Chicago with my partner in a few months and he has a secure job while I do not yet. So far we have looked at two apartments (both about 2600 per month in rent) and spoken to the landlords at each one but both would not let us even apply to their property without a co-signer because I don't have a job in Chicago. My partner makes 120,000 per year so I did not expect this. I figured his monthly income of 10,000 which is 3x the rent would be enough. I have been in private practice as a mental health therapist so I have to become licensed in Illinois before I secure a job (all the paperwork has been submitted for this). Once my paperwork is processed, I don't think it will be hard to find a position as a therapist in Chicago. I also have 23,000 in savings, no debt, and a credit score of 730, and good rental history. Am I crazy for thinking we would be fine? Or did we just have bad luck with our first two attempts? I've never had my parents or any family as co-signers as I have been financially independent since college and I think it's a bit absurd to ask for a co-signer in this situation (honestly we are in the best financial position we've ever been in). But maybe it's different in Chicago or other big cities? I'm a bit discouraged now and unsure what to do.

2023.06.10 20:58 bondaserro Is it ok to share previous sexual adventures with your partner?
I mean, I guess the general answer is yes, now that I've put it like that. But hear me out. I (M 35) absolutely hate it when my GF (F 35) volunteers this kinda info. It's different if one of us asks the other one "have you done so and so before?" And then answer is yes. But I never go in detail and I avoid going on about how great it was (if it was) because I believe it hurts. Or rather, I know it hurts me if she went on about it. But to just volunteering the info makes me feel upset. And turns me off. I don't know if it's insecurities or if it's "normal" to feel this way? Should I be okay with her for example asking me while we're swimming in the ocean if I want an underwater bj, then immediately after to tell me "you know I've done it in [x country]". Now I know who her bf was in [x country] and I know he had a little boat so I was so turned off and upset. Like why the flex? Or is it? It happened few times, that she'd mention something like that and every time I just ask "why the hell would you tell me that?". And she'd apologize. But this recent one made me think, am I the one with the problem? Do you all feel ok about it? Again, unprovoked, without asking about it, to just be hit with "I did so and so". If it's me that is the problem, what is it? I know we all have insecurities, but I'm rather comfortable in my skin and a confident person over all. But this makes me question it.

2023.06.10 20:57 TringlePringle The Denver Nuggets were once expelled from the NBA.
April 25, 1950. Newspapers across the country printed a release by the UPI from the day before that began, "Denver, Sheboygan, and Waterloo were expelled from the National Basketball Association today."
The Nuggets had been around since 1928, but had been amateur for 20 years and professional for only the last two. They were founded by a Piggly-Wiggly regional manager to entertain his son, who loved sports but had become wheelchair-bound as a result of Potts disease. As amateurs, they were national champions three times and runners-up six. As pros, they lost a lot.
In 1948-49, the most interesting thing about the Denver Nuggets was the presence of Mo Udall, who almost became President a couple decades later.
In 1949-50, it was probably the 0-15 start to the season. Or the other three double-digit losing streaks. Or the fact that they only paid their players half their contractually guaranteed salaries.
The NBA was at a weird crossroads in which they knew they either had to split into a majominor league system, expand and split into a baseball style AL/NL setup, or contract. When the best of the small-market teams, the Anderson Packers, ceased operations in the middle of the Finals—in part so that their owner could spend his free time riding trains—it suddenly became far easier for the league to decide on contraction. St. Louis quit on their own terms, but Denver, Sheboygan, and Waterloo were kicked out by unanimous vote from the other owners. Babe Kimbrough, president of the Indianapolis Olympians, initially abstained, until Commissioner Podoloff threatened to kick him out too if he didn't go along with it.
The three expelled teams started up a new league called the NPBL. The fact that you've never heard of it probably says how successful it was; they shut down before their first season even ended. But during that summer, they posed the NBA a real, existential threat. Waterloo poached the #1 pick from the Celtics. 16 starters (including Boston's leading scorer) and loads of prospects followed. Then it all dramatically fell apart.
Professional basketball came back to Denver via the ABA. In 1974, Carl Scheer changed the new franchise's name to the Nuggets to honor the original team. Two years later, they made the ABA Finals with the Denver Post's Frank Haraway among those covering the team, 48 years after his dad created them for him.
Now, they're one game away from their first major basketball championship since before WWII, a time when Denver basketball was led by a duo comprising "America's best center" and a guard who, when he "took charge... the pyrotechnics started." A certain Rev. Dr. James Naismith called them "the greatest team I have ever seen."
The above is a combination of my own personal research, interviews I've personally conducted with two members of the team, and a wide range of articles between 1937-1976 from The Denver Post as well as various newspapers across the Midwest, with topical inspiration from excerpts of the books The Golden Age of Amateur Basketball: The AAU Tournament, 1921-1968 by Adolph H. Grundman, Pioneers of the Hardwood: Indiana and the Birth of Professional Basketball by Todd Gould, and Ball Hawks: The Arrival and Departure of the NBA in Iowa by Tim Harwood.

2023.06.10 20:55 sunflowervinyl I can’t even describe how much I hate the system we have for getting credit card signups
During my shift I was going to be the first person to get a credit card for the day—great for me because I haven’t gotten one in awhile—I had a lady and her husband buying about $220 worth of Cricuit supplies and miscellaneous things. She had signed up previously before, so I offered to give her husband one because she’d actually save a substantial amount of money with the 20% off, around $40. We go through the entire process with her husband and at the end it says the “application could not be completed.” I’ve had this error message before, and I offer to try again, since the machine is very picky and will completely bug out if you even so press a button too quickly, ruining the entire thing. We try again and it once again says the exact same thing, nothing else. She leaves frustrated since she’s already had issues with the card she got, with the person putting the wrong name on the card for her.
It’s just so endlessly frustrating. It never says why the application could not be completed, just that it couldn’t. How are we supposed to know if it was just some system or technology error and we should try again, or they just aren’t eligible, or we just need more information from them??? I was left literally scrambling to try and give this lady some explanations but I didn’t have any because this system is just so hopelessly outdated that, when you actually do get someone that wants to sign up for this atrocious card, it never even works.

2023.06.10 20:54 buiserymeansmisness How do I send a note/talk more to my aunt with cancer?
My aunt got diagnosed with I can't remember the name but I know it's a hormonal cancer that's been growing since her 20's and she's now in her 40's. It's spread all throughout her abdominal area. She has been through a roougghh time. I think she's almost died 4 times in the past year and a half. Lots of hospital visits, always on oxy for pain, barely able to eat, lost a ton of weight, can't get out anymore and live. It's horrible. Luckily her treatments are working and it's stopping her cancer from growing.
My relationship with her has basically been non existent because when I was 3 years old family drama went down she tried to adopt a baby because she couldn't have kids (probably from the cancer growing) and someone in my family said she wasn't a good fit to be a mother to the adoption agency honestly I don't see why she's an amazing person. But nobody would confess and she and my uncle moved away. I think I got to see my uncle maybe every 1-2 years, she wouldn't visit though. But sometime in 2018 both of them came up and I got to visit with them. I hadn't seen her since I was 3 then I was 20 and I knew she was my aunt but I had a hard time connecting because I'm terrible at social interaction lol. Then the next time I see her I'm 23 when I go to visit her and my uncle with my grandma to visit and help her out with the cancer.
Things didn't really go as planned like my grandma had wanted, we were basically just in their way. We thought we'd go and help out while my uncle was working but his job didn't have any work for him when he decided to go back. It had been a whole month that he'd gotten anything and they were worried they'd have to move and he'd have to get a new job. I didn't have a great time when I was there either, I deal with a long list of health issues myself and they were in full swing during the visit. One of those was the worst period of my life, I think being at higher elevation was making it bad. I was extremely tired, lost alot of blood, horrible cramps that made me almost pass out, muscle soreness, brain fog, depression, etc. It wasn't fun. Not only was that going on but my grandma was being horrible to me. As much as I appreciated her bringing me with her and paying for everything and obviously unconditionally love her, she's a narcissist. The whole trip as soon as a showed an inch of joy she got mad that I was having a good time and started bullying me, controlling everything I did like wouldn't let me eat in the car when I had a migraine and needed food, not letting me go the places I wanted to, telling me I couldn't watch shows with cuss words in it (as a 23yr old lmao), constantly telling me I was like my mom who she hates and telling me I was being dramatic and lazy like her. Telling me my aunt and uncle didn't want to see the things I was interested in showing them which was a lie, lied to me multiple times about her conversations with my aunt and uncle to try to guilt trip me into feeling bad about any movement I made. I wasn't in the best mood when I was visiting them. But here's the thing, I enjoyed the fuck out of my time with my aunt and uncle.
They are great people, and really made me feel welcomed. I got some one on one time with my uncle the most instead of my aunt. Him and I got to bond a few times when going to run errands, he got emotional and said I was his daughter, had a few deep talks about rough times they've gone through and he expressed how much he loves my aunt, got to hang out while he was working on his car. I didn't get much of that with my aunt and it makes me sad. I wanted to connect with her but my grandma was around her all the time and wasn't letting me be myself or else she'd use it as ammo against me. We watched tv together, had a few talks (with my grandma there), and my uncle, aunt, grandma, and I went to a national monument together. We didn't get to bond or have a connecting moment and it's eating me up inside. I want to send them a note each separately telling them one I appreciated them having me over, how much I enjoyed my time with them, how nice it was seeing their love for one another, and how much I felt welcomed and loved by them. I just don't know how to make the note personal to my aunt since we didn't get those connecting moments.
I also want to talk with them over the phone more I just don't know how to. One reason being I feel like my grandma talked bad about me to them and how I was acting and I'm afraid they see me different for who I am, and from what was said about me because this was really a first true impression. And second is I don't know how to talk to them especially around the cancer. Usually when you talk to people you ask how's life been, what've you been doing, etc. I know what they've been doing going through a rough freaking time. And I don't know if they want to talk about that. I also haven't been having much eventful things happening in my life with my health issues and living in a bad situation, I don't want to dump bad stuff going on with me to them.
What should I write to my aunt in my note since I didn't get the connection with her like I did with my uncle? And how should I go about talking with them over the phone? Do I not bring up the cancer at all or do I? And how should I let them know I enjoyed my time with them without bringing up my grandma. Thanks for reading <3.

2023.06.10 20:53 Alternative-Dust6286 How to not let people from the past impact in the future?
After class 10, I joined a new school. Being introverted my entire life I decided to change things this time. I started talking to more people. During this time, I fell in 'love' with a girl. Deciding to propose I did so and was rejected, being the first time I did something like this I insisted and ultimately she insulted me and blocked me. The next few months I did nothing, tried to forget it. But fate had other plans, things took a bad turn at home and my parents separated, my mother took me and we went to a rental house near the school, her home was also near the rental house. Deciding that perhaps this was a god given chance to rectify things I decided to perhaps be able to regain her as a friend. One of her friends lived in front of the rental home and I decided to form friends with her to get my message across. I also formed friends with her other friends to make her realise that I was sorry. Day after day. I did the same. Over time, I learnt things about her, that though she told me that she wasn't into relationships, she had actually been in one, with a guy three years her senior. Her friends also teased her and a guy she is close to(he is also a new student) as potential gf/bf. I don't know why inspite of learning that I decided to pursue her as a friend. The next few months I did all kinds of stupid stuff, all my life I had been very quiet about romantic interests, this time I freely told her friends in hopes that she will learn about how sorry I was through her friends, as I couldn't contact her as she had blocked me. I tried messaging from alternative number but she just saw it and blocked that number too. Ultimately, I realised something her friends who I thought had a good connection with me too were taking all the information from me and telling nothing what she said about me, they were mocking me behind my back. I felt sad and told about it to one of them. The next day both she (the girl I liked) and one of her friends was at my doorstep, saying they want to talk, my mother was at home so even she came to know everything, they both insulted me. I came to know everything then. One of the guys of the new school, who was friends with me even before I met her had told her that he would accompany her to "threaten" me (he was previously very friendly and had even given me a photograph of her ex), this was but one instance, everyone I thought of as a friend had seemed to abandon me, I came to know that most of them were only friendly because they needed something to gossip about. I could do nothing then for the next few days, till the end of examinations after which I moved to a new city.
After a couple months, I decided to call them out, sent messages to the girl, she still has the same arrogant tone telling that she and her friends are better than me. I blocked her as I felt I couldn't really say anything to her as lots of things were my fault. But her friend who acted friendly with me, I insulted her after some time(I will not lie, it was nothing bad but just saying that she wasn't as good a person as she thought herself to be) suddenly from stupid I turned to villan, her boyfriend called to threaten me and even the girl( who I had proposed to) had her father call me threatening to get me arrested because I had previously messaged his daughter so much previously. Ultimately, I sorted all things out but I deleted my WhatsApp account, broke my SIM and decided to move from that life.
Fast forward to a year later, now I feel broken, I know those guys insult me still, calling me all kinds of things, mad, stupid, love fool. I do not care what they think of me, their time in my life has passed. I am afraid that someday in the future they may end up joining the same college as me and they will ruin my reputation there too as they kept on spreading my gossip previously, I am afraid that this situation shall never leave my life and even people in my future shall judge me from my past, I know I did lots of weird things during that time and even a brief while after that and I can't write everything down in this post. But I don't want that incident to chase me my entire life. I don't want the future to be like the past and I don't know what to do.
TLDR; I proposed to a girl, did all kinds of shameful stupid shit to win her back as a friend even though she hardly thought of me as one. Now, because of all those stupid acts I lost reputation and was treated poorly and fear that even in the future people from the past will impact my college life.

2023.06.10 20:51 Katikan-Korani-Waau Another Issaquah KS Sushi Review (comparing it to Costco Japan)
| Costco Issaquah Costco Kobe I recently had the opportunity to try Costco Issaquah Sushi (12 pcs for $17 Nigiri), as well as Costco Japan Sushi earlier this year (48 pcs for $20). While the Issaquah one may not offer the same value as the Costco Japan platter, I was impressed by the noticeably larger size of each piece compared to both the Costco Japan Sushi and other Sushi I've tried. I found that each piece averaged around ~38g, whereas most Japanese Sushi tends to be around ~25g per piece. The fish was fresh, and while I personally preferred the Salmon slightly more than the Maguro, both options were excellent. The rice was a bit mushy, but still good. Overall, the quality of this sushi easily meets that of many mid-tier Sushi restaurants in the Seattle area, and is a bit more affordable. While it may not surpass the value of Costco Japan Sushi, it certainly surpasses the quality of most supermarket sushi in North America, and even some supermarket/conbini sushi in Japan. I believe it's worth giving it a try, and I personally plan on returning for more soon. submitted by Katikan-Korani-Waau to Costco [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 20:50 DrSarahJones 😴 Struggling to fall asleep?
I'm (F34) Doctor Socialization in diabetes. Earlier I had insomnia problem then I'm Insomnia free
Let's talk about insomnia and some effective strategies to overcome it.
Insomnia affects millions of people worldwide, disrupting their sleep patterns and leaving them tired and restless. But fear not! There are practical steps you can take to regain control. Let's dive in! 💤
Tweet 3: "First, establish a consistent sleep schedule. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. This helps regulate your body's internal clock and promotes better sleep quality. ⏰
Create a calming bedtime routine to signal your body that it's time to unwind. Avoid stimulating activities and screens before bed. Instead, try reading a book, practicing relaxation techniques, or taking a warm bath. 🚿
Make your sleep environment conducive to rest. Keep your bedroom dark, quiet, and at a comfortable temperature. Invest in a supportive mattress and pillows to ensure optimal comfort for a good night's sleep. 🌙
Avoid consuming stimulants like caffeine or nicotine close to bedtime. These can interfere with your sleep and make it harder to fall asleep. Opt for soothing herbal teas or warm milk instead. ☕
Regular exercise has been shown to improve sleep quality. Engage in physical activity during the day, but avoid intense workouts close to bedtime, as they may rev up your system. Find the right balance for a well-rested body. 🚴♂️
Manage your worries and racing thoughts before bed. Consider keeping a journal to jot down any concerns or ideas, allowing your mind to let go of them for the night. Practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation, to calm your mind. 📝
If you find yourself lying awake for more than 20 minutes, get out of bed and engage in a relaxing activity until you feel drowsy. This helps break the association between the bed and wakefulness, making it easier to fall asleep when you return. 💤
Remember, overcoming insomnia takes time and patience. If your sleep troubles persist, it's important to consult a healthcare professional who can provide personalized guidance and support. Wishing you nights filled with peaceful dreams! 🌙

2023.06.10 20:47 JustScrollingBy-- Please Help! Boomer PIMO in her 70’s feels alone and needs support, advice, and help with writing an email letter to her family about her change in beliefs about the church etc.
Long-time lurker; first time poster. I am in my early 70’s, formerly 5th generation all-in TBM, and have been PIMO for about three years. I have been married to my extremely TBM husband for over 50 years. We have many adult children >7, grandchildren >20, and several great-grandchildren. The whole family are all TBM (except 2 adult children and a couple of grandchildren), and most of us live fairly close to each other in the morridor. My husband was shocked and hurt when I told him that I didn’t believe anything in the church anymore about two years ago. He has experienced what he feels are profound spiritual experiences with the holy ghost in his life and doesn’t want to listen to any of my reasons for not believing. I understand that his whole life paradigm and after-life expectations have been shaken, and I have reassured him that I am still the same person with my same values of being a good person that I was before. I told him that I would still attend church meetings and go through the motions of being a good member of the church for his sake and for the sake of our marriage even though it is becoming more and more uncomfortable for me now.
Currently, my most pressing problem is that my grandchild is getting married in the temple this month, and I would like to attend the sealing, but my temple recommend expired a few months ago. Since I don’t believe anything in the church is true, I don’t really feel bad about not being entirely truthful during the temple recommend interviews. However, my husband is totally against it and suggested that he would out me to the bishop and stake president if I did that.
My dilemma is that since I won’t be attending the sealing of my grandchild, I feel like our whole family dynamic will change when everyone finds out that I don’t have a temple recommend because I don't believe in the church anymore. Our large family is close-knit and gets together often; but some of my children are uber TBM and can be quite judgmental, and I don’t know how to deal with the possible fallout at my age. Several years ago, when my child left the church with the kids, the rest of our family didn’t really shun them, but their relationship with them changed dramatically with a lot of criticism and talking behind their back. It would be extremely hurtful if they did that to me, but I know that I can’t control any of their reactions. My family has been my life for over 50 years, and I don’t want to change/lose my relationship with any of them. They are all wonderful people but deluded by the church in my opinion.
I am thinking that I probably should write an email to all of the adults in the family as soon as possible letting them know about my change in beliefs (without going into detail). I don’t want this bombshell to hit the family on my grandchild’s special day when it will be obvious that I am not in the temple with most of them. Because I really have no one that I can confide in (not even my exmo children for complicated reasons) and no money for therapy; I am turning to this awesome group for support, advice, and any suggestions that you might have for the content of the email that I need to send to my family--especially if you have been in my position. It’s been wonderful being part of this online community. You have already helped me a great deal during these past few years, and I really appreciate all of you!

2023.06.10 20:46 hideaway64 "We are now officially the fat family we always tried not to be"
This is what my mom said to me yesterday when we got back from grocery shopping.
For context: no one in my family is fat. I have at most 15-20 extra pounds over my (probably questionable) ideal. She has on multiple occasions made comments either saying i'm going to dissapear or that I need to "lose those last few pounds". My mother is also at most 15 Ibs over her ideal, but she also exercises constantly so she's muscle everywhere. My brother does have a bit of extra weight but he is still not in the fat category.
We eat majority homecooked meals, a lot of fruits and veg and our grocery shopping this week was tiny because my brother is travelling at the moment. When I mentioned to my mom I forgot how little we buy when he's gone (literally we cook a 1/4 of the meal size when he's away), she was like "ya because we do 't eat anything" and then immediately after that she said we're the fat family now and all of us are fat.
I can't stop thinking about this. My mother called me fat. I KNOW that i'm not but it's just in my head and now everytime I eat, I hear it. I don't want to eat, I don't want to do anything. I want to cry and scream and rip my body apart. How can she say that to me when I know we're not??? I know my mom has an ED, I know all of us have some fashion of disordered eating and we're all different about it and it makes us clash but this is beyond anything thats ever been said to me. I have never been called fat because i never have been and im not, and to hear it from the one person I never ever want to hear it from when i know its not true is really fucking with me. I dont know what to do, i dont know how to feel, and even though I often feel like i'm an imposter in this community I figured you all would understand.
TL/DR: My mom called our family fat, including me, when none of us are, and now i'm spiralling.

2023.06.10 20:45 Plastic_Total_318 My Simple Strategy for Consistent Progress: "3 Actionable Steps"
Hey everyone,
I thought I’d share a strategy I've been using lately that's making a noticeable difference in my life. It's a simple method I call "3 Actionable Steps."
A reminder pops up on my phone 4 times a day. The header is "3 ACTIONABLE STEPS!!!" and it includes a motivational quote and an image that inspires me and reflects my aspirations.
When this reminder appears, I take a moment to identify three concrete, achievable actions I can accomplish within the hour. These tasks can relate to any aspect of my life - from health and career to relationships and personal growth. The key is that they are straightforward tasks, things I can enumerate & complete in minutes, and tasks that, in some way, bring me closer to my long-term goals over time.
Today, for instance after my first notification at 10am I read a chapter from a book I've been intending to finish, did 20 lazy push-ups and called a friend I hadn't spoken to in a while.
This approach keeps things manageable and prevents feelings of being overwhelmed. Plus, it helps me to consciously add value to my life every single day.
I'd love to hear if you have any similar strategies or daily habits.
