So my (28F) mom (59F) has this tendency to wake us up (sometimes abruptly) and then tell us important things expecting us to remember it later on. Most of the times I don’t even remember the conversation.
Then later she’ll mention it and get angry thinking that I’m denying the conversation.
For example, I promised my mom I would help her out at her shop today. She said I can come any time as long as I can help out for 6 hours. She even gave me an example “if you want to come later you can just come by at like 12 and stay until 6.” So I naturally planned to do my own thing in the morning and then head out in the afternoon. Suddenly my mom calls me asking me if I’m coming at all because she told me she has to be out of the store between 10-4pm. I was planning to head there by 1pm. She says that we made this promise together and I firmly said “no we did not ever make any sort of promise in terms of what time I should be coming to the store.”
She was driving and kind of scoffed as if I was saying something unbelievable and had to end the conversation because she got a phone call. I’ve told her multiple….MANY times “if you have something important to say or want us to make a decision don’t do it when we’re not fully awake. If it’s because you just remembered it and think that you’ll forget about it, write it down and tell us later.”
Yet this happens over and over again not just with me but with my dad as well. Ever since we were kids she would do this. He has his own issues too but this time my mom was being super annoying. She’ll talk about it with me later, acknowledge it, maybe change for the next few weeks, but then go back to her old habits. So this issue arises again and again—I’m graduating college next year so I’m planning to get a job and move out asap to get away from my parent’s tendencies to go through cyclical situations that we all dislike but will never be resolved.
For context: she’s got her own anxiety that she casts onto other people, she’s impulsive, hasty, and I believe she AND my dad are emotionally immature parents.

I apologise in advance for this being long, I want to include all details as I experienced them. (Also sorry since I posted this in another sub but got almost no responses and I really really need some advice on this)
A bit of background: I (33f) lead a department of five people. We are mostly similar in age and through shared moral convictions and humour, we’ve become quite close and also spend time with each other outside of work. We have had a great balance from the start. We make decisions as a team, but regardless of our friendship, it is clear that I could overrule them if I deem it necessary.
Since they are all smart and motivated people with strong work ethics, I’ve had to do that maybe two or three times since I started 1 1/2 years ago and it’s never been a problem. I absolutely enjoy when I have an opinion on something and they change my mind with well thought out arguments. We work really well together and I adore them all.
Now to the situation.
I told one of the team members, let’s call her Lila(f32), about a concert in a different country I was going to with my brother. She expressed how much she loves the band and would love to go as well, so we (the team and I) gifted her the ticket for her birthday in December. Lila was super excited and we agreed to book travel and accommodations soon.
The next few months I kept asking about the trip and that we should book soon, but she always said things like “oh yes, soon, next time we see each other” etc. I have to mention that Lila in general is a rather scatterbrained person, it is not unusual for her to do things last minute or forget about stuff all together, so this didn’t worry me at first.
3 weeks before the concert when we were both in the office, I told her I was gonna book now, since flights were only gonna get more expensive. She agreed and said she’ll do it at home. I sent her my flight and hotel data, where I booked, etc.
Then followed days of back and forth from her with her saying she’ll take the train, stay at a friends house who lived there, then again flight, and then the final idea to make the 8 hour drive with a friend by car (Lila doesn’t drive). I told her twice that if she didn’t wanna come or if it was too expensive that it was okay to tell me, but that I just wanted to know, so I could find someone else to go with me. Lila said she really wanted to go, and that she already had booked a room in the same hotel I was gonna stay in. She then purchased a ticket to the concert from me for her friend (I had one extra since my brother cancelled).
The day of the concert, they were supposed to start driving at 8 am. When I boarded my flight at 1pm, I got a text from Lila saying her friend cancelled due to her child being ill and that she wouldn’t come. I texted her “oh no that really sucks :(“ but with all the back and forth I didn’t really believe her. So when I checked in, I told the hotel clerk that my friend asked me to see if she could cancel her reservation and if he could check. There was no reservation under her name.
I was pissed and disappointed, but I haven’t said anything to Lila yet.
This was a few days ago so I have calmed down and now I am mostly worried what I could have to done to create an environment where she didn’t feel comfortable to tell me the truth. In general, the team knows that Lila doesn’t always tell the truth, but it’s mostly smaller lies.
She also is the only one of the team who repeatedly has shown issues with admitting to mistakes. I try to lead by example and immediately admit when I was wrong, and during one-on-one’s with everyone in the team I asked them separately if they felt they could do the same and trust me to react appropriately. Everyone said yes, and that they felt comfortable coming to me with anything, and all except Lila regularly do. I have never once yelled at them (and never ever will! Managers who do that fucking suck!) and actively try to educate myself on how to become a better manager through books and workshops. I’ve also been in therapy for years to improve how I handle my feelings and biases and become more self-reflective.
Lilas behaviour makes me very worried that despite all of my effort I am doing something wrong and creating an environment that breeds dishonesty. I also don’t know how to handle this situation because it is not work related and I don’t know how to address it and if I even SHOULD address it.
I’m also reconsidering the closeness in our team and if i should refrain from hanging out with them privately, because no matter how close we are, the dynamic of “hanging out with the boss” could lead to problems again in the future. On the other hand I don’t want to stop spending time with them because they are amazing human beings who have enriched my life a great deal.
Thanks to anyone who made it through my short novel! I guess my question is: should I talk to Lila about the situation and why she felt the need to lie, or should I try to distance myself from my team members?

My name is Peyton and I am a full-time professional dungeon master. My focus is player-built worlds. This means session 0s are long sessions where a player can control the aspects of the world around their characters' origins. All way down to your families now - back up to the name, government, and style of the nation that they are from. It is a team collaboration from the ground up. For players joining in games that are already in progress, you will have the same options the original players did as long as you don't overwrite what has already been written into the canon. I currently DM 6 games with 19 players combined with some even opting to play in several games. We have a tight nit community of players, many of which date back years.
About My Game

• This game is brand new. As a result, we will go through a session zero where the players get heavy say over the setting of the game before we ever get into playing the game. The players can design as much as they want before I get started.

Services I Offer

1. I do this full time, so I am always home to answer questions.
2. I will be in the discord server starting 1 hour before the game start time.
3. I am a trained graphic design artist so I will be designing both world and battle maps - as well as letters, emblems, and other handouts custom for each game.
4. I will run optional 1-on-1 sessions leading into the campaign for a standard fee. These can also be done for everyone during time skips during the campaign.
5. Sessions will be 2-4 hours
6. 1-on-1 Sessions will be 2-3 hours (paid at $15 USD dollars a session.)

Character Creation Rules

1. All rules may flex for the player's benefit. If you would like to bend or break a rule, please let me know.
2. Most games will start between levels one to three, unless stated otherwise.
3. Stat generation will be one of several systems.- Extended Array - 20, 16, 13, 10, 8, 5- Roll for stats - 4d6 drop the lowest. (Lots of different tweaks to this system)- Standard Array - 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8
4. No custom subclasses.
5. No custom classes except the following.- Blood hunter by Matt Mercer- Gunslinger by Matt Mercer- Lingering Soul by Matt Mercer- Illrigger by MCDM- Pugilist by Benjamin Huffman- Tarnished by Owen McGee
6. Spell Casting Modifiers can be changed to any stat. This includes core die for certain martial classes. (i.e. Monk can change the base dice off Wisdom)
7. Everyone gets a free level one feat.
8. Variant Human is banned.
9. Feats must be either 5e or ONED&D official
10. The following list of feats have been banned.- Elven Accuracy- Gunner
11. Backgrounds can be anything and do not have to be logical for your backstory.
12. Everyone starts with 50 gold. No more. No less.
13. Starting Equipment. (No starting wealth)
14. We always roll for HP. Minimum roll is a 2, you will never get a 1.
15. If you are a race or class that gives you the powerful build feature, you may delete the feature and be a large creature instead.

How I Run the Game

• I tend to think very logically about everything.
• The difference between Perception and Investigation checks is the difference between how specific you are about looking for something. If you are looking for a person in a crowd for example - it's an investigation. If you are just looking for anything in the crowd - it's perception.
• I will use Insight checks to help your PC piece things together if needed.
• We use Discord for Voice (and video which is optional) while using roll20 for the game.
• By default, I don't track spell components unless they have gold value.
• By default, I don't track ammunition, food, or weight (within reason)
• I use Matt Mercer's resurrection rules.
• By default, I do not include homebrew rules other than what is listed above - but some games do have some.
• We are in the process of integrating and trying out the new ONED&D Rules

How Players Impact My Games.
Once a starting group is found we push forward into session 0. This is not your normal session 0. It will be the length of a normal game not just be about making characters. We will first state by asking questions about the settings, so the players control the overall theme of the setting. Then we start looking at characters and after that, we talk about any rule changes we want to make for our game. The players also get to make choices about the area they come from so they are more intertwined and natural. Then I finish the setting based on this feedback. Below is a list of questions players should be prepared to answer for this session 0.

• What time period are we playing in?
• What level of magic is available in the setting?
• What level of science is available in the setting?
• What is the economy like?
• What is the government like?
• Do the other planes exist?

Many other questions will be asked that may only become relevant depending on what the answers before that are. This is what makes my games special, and I hope you would consider joining us.
